On December 13, 2014 The William J. Denver Chapter partnered with IBEW Local 2324 to participate in the annual Wreaths Across America placement day. The chapter purchased 30 wreaths to be placed on the graves of veterans at the Veterans National Cemetery in Agawam Ma. Over 4000 wreaths were placed in total that day. The wreaths cost $15.00 each. The goal of our program is to help cover every grave in that cemetery. There are 7000. Pioneer/Union volunteers Chris Casino, Sandra Torres. Marty Feid and Joe O’Brien helped out that day.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Newspaper article – July 15, 2014 in The Call – Woonsocket, RI Homemade hearts and bears to help heal kids, warm babies Pawtucket – Members of the Retired Telecom Pioneers of America Northern Rhode Island Life Member Club donated 50 handmade bears and 50 heart pillow to the Department of Pediatrics and 50 handmade baby hats to The Birthing Center at Memorial Hospital. Roberta Smith and others presented the bears and hearts to Liz Clupny and Amy Laliberte, both pediatrics nurses, and the baby hats to Kristen Keith, RN, assistant nurse manager of the Birthing Center. The unique bears, hearts and baby hats were created with donated materials and each finished off with their own individualized touch to help comfort the children who are admitted for treatment at Memorial.pictured above from left:  Liz Clupny, RN, pediatrics; Maureen Ponton, Pat Lamothe, Carole Tellier, Polly Fay, Roberta Smith and Aline Robidoux, all retired Telecom Pioneers of America from the Northern Rhode Island Life Member Club; and Amy Laliberte, RN, pediatrics.

 

 

The WJDenver chapter provided over $1200 in Scholastic Books to students in eight schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  The schools included J McGuire and the Helen Keller Elementary schools in Cranston, RI, Fogarty Memorial in Glocester, RI, a school in the Lincoln, RI. area, Scribbles in Westboro, Ma., Stapleton Elementary in Framingham, Ma., Lenox School in Lenox, Ma., and Hadley School in Hadley, Ma. Each school received between 100-150 books which were given to students or placed in the school library.  A Pioneer also read a book to the students.

Dear Bruce and Jim,
Thank you so much for your generous donations to Andy’s attic. Please thank everyone at the Pioneer volunteer network for me. It was such a pleasure to meet both of you, Bruce and Jim today, & I was thrilled to be able to show you what Andy’s Attic looks like and what we do there to help the community. Your donations will help so many needy children and their families throughout Worcester County. I would love for you both to come by again in the fall and watch our students in action. A donation was recently made to Andy’s Attic. Bruce Broadard and Jim Crosbie met with Christine Foley to make the donation of sneakers, socks, underwear, and t-shirts. They were very happy with our Chapter donation.

Hello! This letter is written to all of you and the members of your organization. The University of Colorado Hospital Recovery Room (PACU) is the recipients of the cough/heart pillows your volunteer groups have been making. As the coordinator of this project, I am in awe of the great service I have received from all of you. My manager was speechless when she saw the boxes of pillows being delivered to her office. This effort has done so much for us not just for patient satisfaction but for their overall recovery. Unfortunately, I am not able to take their pictures so I can show you the looks on their faces when they see the pillows. It is an added comfort, security and they become less afraid of performing their activities. The pillows have also made our staff have maximized their work performance now that they have the resources to use for their patients. Receiving these pillows has made me believe that God watches over our patients through people like you. We will accept more pillows if you have extra to spare. We do 50 surgeries a day and about 1/3 needs cough pillows.Thank you for everything you have done for our patients.

Boston Strong Daffodils in bloom –  The Marathon planting project which the WJ Denver chapter participated in last fall. There were over 15,000 bulbs planted in all in memory of the victims of the Marathon bombings and the beautiful blooms for all runners to enjoy this Spring it – The blooms came just in time!!!!

 

 

    

Boston Strong Daffodils in bloom in Rhode Island – Thank you again for your thoughtfulness in planting daffodils at Ronald McDonald House in Providence, RI in honor of the Boston Marathon.  They look beautiful.

 

 

Pioneer Life Member Jim Crosbie participated Monday February 10, 2014 at an Olympic display for the kids at the Naquag K-2 school in Rutland Ma.  There were a couple of hundred kids that listened to me and Mrs. Jennifer Leith as she did a power point presentation on the Socchi Olympics. The kids got to hold the torch Jim carried for the 1996 Olympics and two had their picture taken with us.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Soldiers Home receives items the Pioneers purchased from their wish list.  Pioneer Jim Crosbie and his granddaughter Megan made the delivery.  “They were thrilled with all we got.”  Pioneer Joan Carney also delivered items to the home.
